A British Airways flight from London to Dusseldorf (Germany) landed Monday in error in Edinburgh , Scotland, after the crew had received erroneous flight documents. Passengers have realized that something is unlikely to land when they heard the message “Welcome to Edinburgh,” according to the BBC.
The aircraft, which took off from London City Airport, was then redirected and landed safely in Dusseldorf. The flight was a race operated by WDL Aviation on behalf of British Airways. The British company announced that it was checking with WDL why the pilots received the wrong flight plan. On Sunday, the last flights of the same aircraft were London – Edinburgh and return. A WDL official may have copied the same flight plan for the Monday race, according to information provided by British Airways. The German company WDL also announced that it was investigating the situation, but stressed that the safety of the passengers was at no point endangered. All passengers were transported to Dusseldorf on Monday after the unwanted trip from Scotland. British Airways declined to communicate the number of passengers involved.
Sophie Cooke, a 24-year-old management consultant, travels weekly from London to Dusseldorf and said that when the commander announced he was going to land in Edinburgh, he thought it was a joke and asked his attendants board if I speak seriously. The commander then asked the passengers to pick up those who want to reach Dusseldorf. All passengers confirmed. “The pilot said he had no idea what had happened, that it was a premise, and the crew was trying to find out what could be done,” Cooke said. According to the young man, the aircraft was parked at Edinburgh airport for two and a half hours, and then took off to Germany. “It was very frustrating. The toilets were blocked, and the crew had finished all the snacks they could offer us, “the young man said.
